About me

As an Accredited BACP member, Relationship Therapist, Counsellor, Life Coach and author I bring a wealth of experience and skill to the counselling arena.  Passionate about people and with a compassionate ‘bedside’ manner acquired in a former twenty year nursing career, I'm told by clients I have a friendly, warm and approachable working style.

I originally trained as a Life Coach in 2005 and then completed a Masters Degree in Relationship Therapy in 2012. Working at Relate, for the NHS and in private practice, I specialise in relationship issues, whilst also working with a wide range of mental health and personal issues such as anxiety, depression, low self esteem, anger management and bereavement

No stranger to personal adversity, I have used my own difficult past as a springboard to study and write in order to help others. My story has been featured in the national press (Daily Mirror, Bella), radio and television (The Big Questions BBC1).

I also contribute to the national media on a variety of subjects including articles in NOW magazine, Cosmopolitan, Cosmopolitan Bride, Grazia, Heat, Fabulous magazine and Woman's Own.

What is
Counselling and Coaching?

Both are ‘talking therapies’ which help clients bring about effective change or enhance
wellbeing.

Counselling…

…is an umbrella term covering various techniques and skills whilst working with difficult or painful issues. I am a fully trained and qualified integrative therapist which means I use systemic, psychodynamic and other proven theories in my work. My speciality is Relationship Therapy and am also skilled in working with many other personal problems and mental health issues.

Personal Coaching…

…is solution focused, doesn’t dwell on the past and uses proven cognitive techniques and strategies to bring about change, usually more quickly than with counselling. I am a trained and skilled coach with a focus on bringing about positive change.

Finally...

In essence I am an experienced counsellor and coach with a passion for helping clients manage relationship and other personal issues. No stranger to personal adversity, I bring a wealth of understanding and support for those who need help to move forwards.

Integrity, commitment and a smile are guaranteed for my clients. A professional who is fully qualified yet has a warm and caring nature, I am committed to support and guide you through personal problems.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
